Nancy O'Dell's broadcast career began as a journalist and anchor for WPDE-TV Myrtle beach, South Carolina. In the following years, she worked as a morning-news anchor as well as crime reporter for WCBD TV. O'Dell's stories in Charleston concerning the lack of leniency by police when it comes to DUI cases prompted a State Law Enforcement Division to look into the matter. The result was state authorities issuing more strict rules in these instances. Ms. O'Dell won the Best Report of the Media Award in South Carolina by the Associated Press.
